Clausewize is intentionally structured so BYOK mode stays as local-first as possible, but account-linked features, website analytics, and any future hosted analysis features can involve different data flows.
01

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Clausewize handles information when you use the Clausewize marketing website, web app, browser extension, and related services.

Clausewize is designed around mode-dependent data handling. BYOK flows, synced account features, and any future hosted features do not all process data in the same way, so this policy should be read with that distinction in mind.

02

Information We Collect

We may collect account details you provide through our authentication provider, such as your Clerk user identifier, email address, and basic profile metadata needed to support sign-in and account-linked features.

We may collect synchronized analysis results when you explicitly use account sync features. We do not claim to collect raw HTML, full page DOM snapshots, or browser extension provider keys for sync by default.

We may also collect operational information such as request metadata, service diagnostics, abuse-prevention signals, and website analytics data needed to operate, secure, and improve the service.

03

BYOK Mode

In BYOK mode, your browser extension stores your provider credentials locally in the browser environment and may call your chosen model provider directly from the extension.

In that mode, Clausewize is not intended to receive your provider API key and is not intended to proxy the raw legal packet through our servers as part of the standard BYOK analysis path.

Third-party providers you choose, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, process data under their own terms and privacy policies. Your use of those providers is your responsibility.

04

Sync and Hosted Features

If you sign in and use sync features, we may store final analysis results and related account-linked records needed to make those features work across devices.

Hosted analysis features, if offered now or later, may require Clausewize systems to receive, process, store, meter, or log data differently from BYOK mode. If hosted features materially expand what data we process, we may update this policy and the surrounding product disclosures.

05

Website Analytics

Our marketing website may use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to measure usage, performance, and reliability. These tools help us understand traffic patterns, page performance, and deployment health.

We use analytics for product and site improvement, not to sell personal data. Analytics providers may process technical metadata such as page paths, referrers, browser characteristics, and performance measurements under their own service terms.

06

How We Use Data

We use data to provide the service, authenticate users, support synchronized history, maintain security, investigate abuse, troubleshoot failures, measure product performance, and improve the Clausewize experience.

We may also use aggregated or de-identified operational information to understand usage trends, capacity needs, product quality, and service reliability.

07

How We Share Data

We may share data with service providers and infrastructure partners that help us run Clausewize, such as hosting, authentication, analytics, error monitoring, database, and communications providers.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to enforce our terms, to protect the security of the service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

We do not state that we sell personal data obtained through Clausewize usage.

08

Retention

We retain data for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain account features, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Because BYOK, sync, and future hosted features differ, retention periods may vary by feature and data type. Local extension storage is primarily controlled by your browser profile and your own deletion choices.

09

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information under our control, but no system is perfectly secure.

You remain responsible for securing your device, browser profile, extension environment, account credentials, and any third-party provider accounts you connect to Clausewize.

10

Your Choices

You can choose whether to use Clausewize anonymously in local-first BYOK workflows or whether to use account-linked features such as sync.

If you want to request deletion of account-linked data or have privacy questions, contact us at support@clausewize.app and we will review the request in light of the data involved and our legal obligations.

11

Children's Privacy

Clausewize is not directed to children, and we do not intend to knowingly collect personal information from children through the service.

If you believe a child has provided personal information through Clausewize, contact us so we can review and address it.

12

Changes and Contact

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we may revise the effective date and publish the updated version on the website.
